Sean here and I have to tell you, there was a time in my life when I struggled with my weight and fitness as so many people do.  It all started when I sustained a lower back injury in the military which then spiraled me into a lifestyle of laziness and frustration.

I was nearly 60 pounds overweight, it was difficult for me to do my job, my son was 2 years old at that time and I couldn't keep up with him and I was in constant pain.  Simply put, I was miserable and I knew something had to change.  That's when my love and passion for strength and fitness started.

Through trial and error, I discovered how to drop the extra weight, re-build my strength and stamina and even rehabilitate my lower back without surgery or using junk supplements and gimmicks.  Soon I was learning from the best of the best in the fitness industry which helped me turn my passion for helping others into Mayhem Fitness.

Because of my own personal battle with being overweight and out of shape, I know what it feels like to struggle and be highly frustrated with yourself, especially when you think you are doing everything right but the weight just won't seem to come off.

Trust me, over my journey, I made a ton of mistakes, maybe some you've experienced.

But, by working with the best of the best in the fitness industry and by adapting a no excuses, never quit attitude, I discovered exactly how to drop the extra weight and get in incredible shape without having to spend hours in the gym every day or eat a bland and boring diet and I want to share all of this with you.

That's why I created the Mayhem Strength & Fitness.

 Mayhem Fitness started out of the humble beginnings of a cheer facility and built our program from the very methods and strategies that took me from overweight, weak and out of shape to a much stronger, confident and healthier person that I am today...way before barbell training, functional exercise and strength and conditioning workouts were considered cool. 

Here at Mayhem Fitness we lift weights, and condition our bodies, and have a great time doing it – make no mistake, we are a Strength & Conditioning Gym. What that means is unlike many of the other fitness gyms, clubs or CrossFit in Richmond, Henrico, Mechanicsville, Short Pump and Hanover – at Mayhem Fitness we treat all of our members like athletes.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Sean and his team during the 20 in 42 Transformation Challenge. I felt like I was home the minute I walked in the door for the first time.

There was such a positive vibe with everyone encouraging the newcomer that it was contagious. I wanted to improve so I would have also have the opportunity to help someone else.

Showing up to the gym each day and training was a real treat after a hard day at the office. It gave me the chance to forget about everything and focus on myself and soon I was able to help my peers around me.

Before I did the challenge I worked out daily with no real improvement in 2 years. I was sore all the time, frustrated and about to give up. Because of the challenge, I was transformed from a frumpy guy who worked out hard all the time to a much toner athlete.

I knew about eating right but Sean explained how your body works when given the correct fuel. What he taught me about nutrition made sense and was easy to follow. I was amazed on how much I lost without cutting down on the amount of food I eating.

From the workouts more core has improved, I am more flexible and I have better balance. My body no longer hurts and my self confidence is back. I highly recommend this program for anyone like me who works out as hard as they can and get no results.

I am excited to say that I was able to achieve each goal that I set for myself while on the 20 in 42 Transformation Challenge.  I was able to lose weight, gain more energy and feel much better about myself.

Not only did I meet my goals but now I enjoy working out and have changed my daily eating habits.  In fact, my whole family has adapted a healthier eating lifestyle because of my commitment level to the challenge.

A little over year ago I was unhappy. I smoked, felt horrible, drank way to much alcohol and was told by my primary physician that I would end up with diabetes or something worse if I didn't change my ways. I started off by quitting smoking but unfortunately in doing so I gained 35 pounds making my weight 235 pounds at my heaviest. I made a decision to change my life. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I had to rewire my way of thinking about food. I talked to myself a lot and tried to motivate myself and I eventually started walking. Within about 6 months I lost 35 pounds. I was so happy with my progress but I just couldn't get the extra pounds off. I looked online and saw a post about mayhem fitness owner is Sean Murphy. I decided to go there and it changed my life. Anyone who thinks they cannot do something, I have been there. But, you can! You can do anything you put your mind to. You have to want it enough. This gym will get you in shape and the people here are amazing! If anyone would like to know more about it please message me. Look at what it did for me, and it can do it for you too. I’ve been struggling with my weight for about 7 years now. Each year that went by I kept telling myself this is the year to get back in shape.

"I knew I needed to do something drastic because my weight had gotten way out of control..."

And nothing I was doing seemed to work.

I decided to join Mayhem Fitness in January of 2012 and since then I have lost over 80 pounds but the biggest reward for me is the confidence and strength I have gained.

Starting out was very hard and I really didn't think I could do it.  The workouts were very challenging and it was discouraging at first but the team support of my peers and trainers at MXT helped me to push beyond my self doubts, all I had to do was show up each day!

I HATE this program! Or I should say that I hate rolling out of bed to get to the 6am class, but I do LOVE the results! I feel awesome about being healthy, fit, & strong - and Sean's program keeps me on the straight & narrow. If anybody wants to see healthy results....whether it's losing major pounds, fitting into those cute jeans/bathing suits that at one time worked for you OR wanting to improve your performance in your favorite sport, MXT will do it for you! I was so amazed at my only 3 weeks! I already worked out regularly but was still busting out of my clothes and nursing shoulder and ankle issues. Now, 3 months later my clothes that I started growing out of 5 years ago fit me better NOW than they did THEN! AND, I have kissed my ankle brace goodbye and my shoulder doesn't bother me anymore!! When I play tennis, my opponents comment about my ability to get to so many balls and mention how buff I look (that's a little embarrassing but nice at the same time!!)

After 14 workouts, I can't believe how much better I already feel! So much more strength and energy!! When we run our laps during warm-up, I used to want to lay down and die when you would call out "Half-Way"!! Now I can make it through the warm up still feeling pretty good!
